California Community Colleges with the Best Baseball Programs

Admission into a college with a strong baseball program is necessary for student athletes who are considering a future amongst the sport’s elite. Quality college baseball programs are: competitive, have proper leadership, and require their athletes to be committed to academics.

What California Colleges Have the Best Baseball Programs?

De Anza College

The baseball program at De Anza college is one of the best in California. The 2017 De Anza College baseball team has been selected for the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award. This incredible honor is given to teams who have a team accumulative GPA of 3.0.  First base player Chad Franquez, was the 2017 recipient the Pat Doyle scholarship. On top of his athletic skills, Chad held a 3.9 GPA in his time at De Anza College.

De Anza College baseball athletes successfully transferred to the following four-year institutions:

  • University of California, Berkeley
  • University of California, Los Angeles
  • University of California, San Diego
  • Azusa Pacific University
  • California Poly San Luis Obispo

Former De Anza College baseball player Bill Pecota, went on to play professional baseball from 1986 – 1994.

Cañada College

Cañada College is consistently ranked in the top 20 in California. The baseball team prides itself on launching hundreds of professional baseball careers during the last 30 years. 90% of Canada’s baseball players have graduated and moved on to play at NCAA and NAIA colleges.

Alumni that have gone on to play professional baseball include:

  • Tonny Lucca: Florida Marlin’s
  • Mike Garcia: Atlanta Braves
  • Steve Hoff: Chicago Cubs
  • Jason Knupfer: Baltimore Orioles

Sierra College

Sierra College baseball program is consistently ranked top ten in California. The team has participated in the state finals multiple times in the last ten years. They have also advanced to the regionals seven times.

Lassen Community College

Lassen Community College runs one of the most successful baseball programs in California that is committed to academic excellence.


  • Lassen College has produced more than 400 All-Conference Players in the last five years including two league MVPs in the 2016 and also 2017 baseball seasons.
  • Eleven players received athletic scholarships and two freshmen have signed Division 1 scholarships in the last five years. The head coach, Frank Avilla was recognized as the 2017 Golden Valley Conference Coach of the year for the second time.
  • In the last eight years, every player has successfully transferred and competed at the four-year level after Lassen College.
