Formerly known as Mount Saint Mary’s College, Mount St. Mary University Los Angeles is a private, Catholic liberal arts and women-centered university established in 1925. The school’s motto ‘GOD, MY LIGHT’ reflects its religious standing. Mount Saint Mary’s University is affiliated to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet who are also its founders.

Mount St. Mary’s University has two campuses, which are 16 miles apart. Chalon campus, in Brentwood is set on 56 acres of land, while Doheny Campus, in North University Park is set on 20 acres of land.  In total, 2,160 undergraduate students and 547 graduate students attend Mount St. Mary’s.

In 2014, Money Magazine rated Mount Saint Mary’s University ‘The Best University Across America’, which ‘Adds Most Value.  Two-thirds of the students, at Mount Saint Mary offer to volunteer for community service across California.

68% of undergraduates from Mount Saint Mary’s University often advance, to pursue a higher degree. Since 2012, Mount Saint Mary’s University pre-law students have successively won Best Attorney and Best Witness at the Great Western Regional Competition.

32 alumni of the university have won the prestigious Rockefeller Brothers Fund Fellowship for Aspiring Teachers of Color. Mount Saint Mary’s University is a member of the Women in Public Service Project, which identifies and educates women committed to public service globally.

Mount Saint Mary’s University has over 30 student organizations ranging from sororities to cultural organizations, to service clubs and societies. The university hosts ‘Human Rights Film Fest’ an annual festivity to showcase the importance of human rights. This festival also provides media and arts students with a hands-on film and media experience.

Mount Saint Mary’s University has been a favorite location for TV shows and movies, featuring both campuses. This is due to its isolated location and magnificent architectural structures.

Mount Saint Mary’s University offers a variety of courses on both campuses, with over 35 academic majors and minors. The school began offering graduate degrees in 1955, and offered its first doctorate of physical therapy in 2002.
