Best California Colleges for Future Billionaires

The state of California is home to many reputable universities. Many of these notable institutions have produced well-known personalities as their alumni.  70% of the country’s billionaires have a bachelor’s degree and quite a number were received from California universities. California College Bound compiled a list of the following universities, which have produced and continue to produce billionaires.

Stanford University

Stanford University is located in Stanford, California. As one of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in the country, Stanford University is obviously sought after by a large number of prospective students. The universities close proximity to Silicon Valley is advantageous to technology students as they acquire workplace skills through internships at the numerous technology firms in the area. According to Forbes magazine, Stanford University has produced 13 United States billionaires. The following technology billionaires are alumni of Stanford University:

  • Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap, Inc.
  • Bobby Murphy, CEO of Snapchat
  • Brian Acton, Co-founder of WhatsApp
  • Reid Hoffman, Co-founder LinkedIn

University of Southern California

University of Southern California is a high-ranking private university located in the city of Los Angeles.  Approximately 375,000 living alumni have earned their degree from the University of Southern California.  Many of whom have founded companies such as MySpace, Tinder, Intuit, Riot Games, Qualcomm and Lucas film. Neil Armstrong the first man on the moon is one of the many notable alumni from the University of Southern California.  The university boasts the satisfaction of having produced 11 billionaires.  Three of those include:

University of California, Los Angeles

The University of California, Los Angeles is located in Westwood, Los Angeles. UCLA boasts five billionaires in its list of alumni.  University of California, Los Angeles offers 3,800 courses, which include over 125 majors and 80 minors.  The university is recommended for students that have an interest in business economics, political science, psychobiology, economics and psychology.

Three alumni billionaires are:

University of California, Berkeley

The University of California, Berkeley overlooks the San Francisco Bay.  Berkeley’s pristine location makes the city a top travel destination for tourists and its proximity to Silicon Valley draws many new business start-ups.  Forbes Magazine sites the University of California, Berkeley with at least 10 billionaire alumni, including:

  • Michael Milken, former American financier
  • John Sperling, Founder University of Phoenix
  • Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman of Google

Claremont McKenna College

Located 30 miles east of Los Angeles, Claremont McKenna is a member of The Claremont Colleges. Students can choose from more than 2,200 classes and participate in co-curricular activities with 7,000 other students within the Claremont consortium. The university experiences a freshman retention rate of 95%, an indicator of high student satisfaction.  Billionaire alumni include:

  • George Roberts, Founder Kohlberg, Kravis & Roberts
  • Henry Kravis, Co-founder Kohlberg, Kravis & Roberts

Some of the most popular majors offered at the university include: economics, international relations, accounting and political science and government. With three billionaires in its list of alumni, Claremont McKenna College is a sure bet for prospective students who would like to be future billionaires.

University of California, San Diego

The college sits upon the beach bluffs overlooking Black’s Beach in La Jolla. The University of California, San Diego is alma mater to three billionaires, including Nick Woodman the CEO and founder of GoPro cameras.
